The following figures describe the Draft Final experimental design for CASES-99. They can be viewed below or downloaded in postscript format.

Figure Descriptions

  1. Plan view within Argonne ABLE (Atmospheric Boundary Layer Experiments) triangle (equilateral, 64 km on a side) and relative to Wichita, Kansas.  Major highways, larger scale deployed instruments (ABLE and NCAR ATD, primarily) and the CASES-99 Main Site are shown.
  2. The 60 m tower. Heavily instrumented with 8 flux heights, a 34 thermocouple chain, multiple radiative flux divergences, 3 dissipation heights  and co-located with a sounding system (GLASS), this tower anchors the entire CASES-99 experiment.
  3. A plan view of the densely instrumented CASES-99 Main Site. Power, phone, roads and instrument sites are shown with landowner boundaries. 10 m towers are located at 100, 300, 900 and 1800 m radii as well as in a small drainage (5-10 m depth) to the south-southwest of the Primary Tower. Where power and phone need to be run is also shown.
  4. The CASES-99 Main Site, but with instrumentation radii plotted along with landowner names and instrumentation (hatching indicates land unavailable for use).
  5. The CASES-99 Main Site with instrument deployment and landowner boundaries only.
  6. A focussed view of the corner of 120th and Ellis Rd. on the CASES-99 Main Site
  7. A close-up of the COT (CASES-99 Operations Trailer (at the ABLE Project Office or APO).
  8. Topography at the entire main site. 10 foot (3 meter) contour intervals.
  9. Topography immediately in the vicinity of the 60 m tower. 10 foot (3 meter) contour intervals.
