Welcome to the Magneto-Optical Doppler Analyzer (MODA) Instrument Homepage.
MODA investigated the dynamics and chemistry of the upper atmosphere by measuring the intensity and Doppler shift of the sodium
nightglow emitted at 90 km altitude near the mesopause.
We looked at the effect of atmospheric tides on
the wind and sodium chemistry at the mesopause.
It was located at the
University of Colorado Mountain Research Station
on Niwot Ridge, Colorado (40N, 105W) and operated from October 1994 to May 1996.
It was built and is operated by Biff Williams and Steven Tomczyk from the
High Altitude Observatory,
a division of the
National Center for Atmospheric Research
in Boulder, Colorado.
