I am a 7-year Lafayette homeowner residing just south of the Nuoci Farm development site, aka: Cabrini Gardens or Silver Creek. I am extremely concerned with the proposed Markel Homes Development plan. The property design was originally presented as a single-family home neighborhood. The current plan is for a town home complex, which will result in a much higher population density than was previously discussed at meetings. I find this quite disturbing, and urge City Council to deny such a high-density development plan. Additionally, I am certain that the added traffic to this already overburdened area will result in serious complications. Since King Sooper's opened, exiting Crossing Drive in front of the library onto East Baseline Road, in either direction, is exceedingly dangerous. I am amazed a traffic fatality has not yet occurred, and feel it is only a matter of time before such a tragedy does happen. Another intersection of concern is Crossing Drive and Highway 287. With Chili's and, ultimately, Super Wal-Mart opening, the traffic will increase at that intersection as well. Crossing Drive is already used as a shortcut between Highway 287 and East Baseline Road. When King Sooper's was approved, I trusted that the city would take these two intersections into consideration when designating traffic lights or some other improvement. I am dismayed nothing has been done. Lafayette does not need additional residents, but rather, an increase in the tax base. In this way, additions such as Chili's and Super Wal-Mart make sense; adding 170 town homes does not. I urge the Planning Commission and City Council to honor the original Comprehensive Plan for this development. Thank you for your time and consideration in this urgent matter.
