CRISTA: Cryogenic Infrared Spectrometers and Telescopes for the Atmosphere
CRISTA temperature perturbations provide information on shorter
vertical wavelength gravity waves than the MLS [Preusse et al., 1999].
The figure above shows largest amplitudes for short vertical wavelength
waves nearest the equator. This dominant pattern can be related to
the slow vertical group velocities of the short vertical wavelength and
low frequency waves that occur near the
equator [Alexander, et al.,
2001; Ern et al., 2004].
