MLS: Microwave Limb Sounder
Comparisons of observed gravity wave activity (top) to computer
models (bottom) help us to better understand what the patterns seen
in these data can provide for global modeling needs.
We have learned
that the dominant variations in latitude are an observational artifact,
while the variations in longitude near the equator are closely related
to variations in deep convection [Alexander, 1998; McLandress et al., 2000].
